Artificial basic intelligence (AGI) is a kind of expert system (AI) that matches or surpasses human cognitive capabilities across a large variety of cognitive tasks. This contrasts with narrow AI, which is limited to particular tasks. [1] Artificial superintelligence (ASI), on the other hand, describes AGI that significantly goes beyond human cognitive capabilities. AGI is thought about one of the definitions of strong AI.

Creating AGI is a main objective of AI research and of business such as OpenAI [2] and Meta. [3] A 2020 survey determined 72 active AGI research study and advancement jobs throughout 37 countries. [4]
The timeline for achieving AGI remains a topic of ongoing argument amongst scientists and professionals. As of 2023, some argue that it might be possible in years or decades
